While Chaucer's Canterbury Tales contain many references to musical pieces, in the past one was forced to simply leave these references to the imagination. For this concert From the Depths has researched and found many of these pieces and created a delightful presentation of these works that has proven to be a hit with audiences everywhere. Enjoy sections of the Canterbury Tales read with period diction and acted while hearing the music Chaucer would have had in mind when he wrote the Tales.
From the Depths: Anna Marsh, Thea Smith and Andrew Fouts
From the Depths combines the members' mutual love of ancient music and great literature with a strong belief in the spoken word as a compelling concert medium. The aim of the group is to bring works of early literature to audiences as performance texts, complimented by music of the time. Chaucer's Canterbury Tales are a natural starting point, due to members' affection for the work, as well as Miss Smith's intimate familiarity with performance and recitation of Middle and Old English. For this concert, From the Depths will be joined by guest artist, Dana Maiben (vielle).
