Baroque trumpeter Barry Bauguess and friends perform a concert of chamber music of music from Kroměříž (Bohemia). Works by Biber, Vejvanovský, Schmelzer and others mix the sound of the early trumpet, Eastern European modes and the logic of the German Baroque to yield a mesmerizing concert.
The Hapsburg territories of Moravia and Bohemia, and especially the Moravian town of Kroměříž have left us with a rich repertoire of music, especially virtuoso trumpet and violin music. Located in what is now the Czech Republic, one of the most luminous periods in Kroměříž history developed under the rule of Prince-Bishop Karl Liechtenstein-Castelcorno from 1664 to 1695. The bishop founded an outstanding musical establishment employing the trumpeter and composer Pavel Josef Vejvanovský and the violinist and composer Heinrich Ignaz Franz Biber and his court maintained close connections to Heinrich Schmelzer.
The residency of Barry Baugess at BLEMF 2008 is underwritten by the Irish Lion Restaurant & Pub, which is also sponsoring this concert.
