Early Percussion Workshop

Medieval & Moroccan Percussion
with "Vlad" & Anass

Wolodymyr "Vlad" Smishkewych and Anass Sentissi will demonstrate traditional Medieval and Moroccan Percussion instruments and their performance. They will also talk about how the Moroccan musical tradition can be seen as a window to the musical traditions of the middle ages.

Musicians from the Cantigas de Santa Maria

A pair of musicians from a miniature in Alfonso X's Cantigas de Santa Maria are shown playing a large albuqah (hornpipe) and a tareha, or medieval North African drum similar to the darbouka. The drum is held on the shoulder, similar to the manner still seen amongst some Moroccan players today.
