Program on the Hour: EMI Goes Pop!

A light-hearted mini-program featuring some of our favorite pop and rock songs from the past four decades, re-imagined in an early music context. Jacobs School of Music students will perform songs by the Beatles, P!nk, Annie Lennox, and Cyndi Lauper, accompanied by harpsichords, viols, lutes, and early wind instruments.

The inspiration for this concert was taken from Renaissance composers such as Josquin, who would frequently weave popular tunes of the day into the fabric of their own compositions. The line between “popular” and “classical” music in the Renaissance could get quite fuzzy!  It is in that genre-blending spirit that we present this program.
